Healing from Trauma: Finding Calm After the Storm
Trauma can leave a profound mark on your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Whether it stems from a single event or ongoing stress, the effects can feel overwhelming and hard to escape. But healing is possible. At our clinic, we provide a compassionate, supportive space where you can process and heal from trauma at your own pace.
Understanding Trauma and Its Impact
Trauma-related conditions are diagnosed based on specific criteria from the DSM-5. During your first session, a mental health professional will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand how trauma has affected your life. This might include an in-depth interview about your experiences, symptoms, and standard assessments to help identify conditions like:
Acute Stress Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Adjustment Disorders
Common Symptoms of Trauma
Trauma can show up in many ways, causing emotional and physical distress. Some common symptoms include:
Involuntary and intrusive memories
Avoidance of people, places, or things that remind you of the trauma
Difficulty concentrating or thinking clearly
Heightened arousal and hyper-vigilance
Mood struggles, such as hopelessness, detachment, or indifference
Difficulty feeling safe or calm
These feelings may feel all-consuming, but the benefits of trauma therapy are clear, and the symptoms are treatable with the right support.
Our Approach to Trauma Healing
Healing from trauma takes time, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. We use evidence-based treatments, including cognitive processing therapy, to help you understand and work through the emotional and physiological impacts of trauma. Our focus is on creating a space where you can heal safely, with a plan tailored to your needs and goals.
We will also be adding specialised treatment options, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), in early 2025. Please email us to find out more and pre-book your treatments.
